The Reason Lewis & Co Moving
Group Was Formed

I didn’t set out to start a removals company.

The idea came from conversations — with families, with professionals, with people who had recently moved and quietly said the same thing:

“We just hoped it would go smoothly.”

After years working in education and professional environments where people’s wellbeing, safeguarding and trust genuinely mattered, I found it difficult to accept that something as significant as moving home, relocating a business, or handling someone else’s possessions often came down to hope rather than confidence.

That gap — between what people needed and what they often experienced — is the reason Lewis & Co Moving Group was formed.

The unspoken worries people have
when booking a removals company

Most people don't openly list their concerns when booking a removals company, but they're always there beneath the surface:

  • Will my things be treated with care?
  • Will they rush to fit another job in?
  • Will the vehicle be clean and appropriate?
  • Will everything actually be insured?
  • What happens if keys are delayed or plans change?

These doubts come from real experiences — stories of rushed moves, damaged items, uninsured operators, and situations where responsibility was unclear.

Lewis & Co exists to remove that uncertainty — not with big claims, but with how we work.

Why we only carry out one house move per day

One of the first decisions I made was that we would only carry out one house move per day

Not because we can't do more — but because pressure creates mistakes, and mistakes create stress for everyone involved. A single move per day allows proper planning, time to adapt if things change, and the ability to do the job properly from start to finish.

  • Our vehicles are kept clean and presentable inside and out
  • Items are properly protected
  • Furniture and belongings are placed exactly where they belong, not left in doorways or corners

We approach every job — whether large or small — with the same level of care. That attention to detail isn’t accidental. We’re perfectionists by nature, and that shows in the finished result.

Handling valuable, specialist and sensitive moves with care

Handling valuable, specialist and sensitive moves with care

A growing part of our work involves handling items where care and precision genuinely matter.

That includes high-value products, auction pieces, artwork, business equipment and specialist items. It also includes sensitive probate moves and clearances, where emotional value is often far greater than monetary value.

We also work with housing associations, residential care homes and supported living environments, where moves need to be handled discreetly, respectfully and with clear communication for residents, families and staff alike.

In these situations, nothing is rushed, and nothing is treated as “just another job. The way items are moved — and the way people are treated — matters.

Why correct insurance and compliance actually matter

There are operators in this industry who rely on speed, volume and chance. Multiple moves in a day. Minimal protection. Little or no insurance. Vehicles that aren't fit for purpose.

Most customers don't realise the risk until something goes wrong. For professionals — estate agents, solicitors, councils, housing providers or care organisations — that risk can extend far beyond a single move.

Lewis & Co was formed to be the opposite of that.

From the outset, the business was set up to operate properly. That means appropriate insurance to protect items while in our care, public and employer's liability cover, vehicles insured correctly for business use, and the relevant waste carrier licence for clearances and disposals.

These aren’t technicalities — they’re safeguards for everyone involved.

A people-first approach shaped by professional experience

At its heart, this business is about people.

  • People leaving homes full of memories
  • People managing estates or properties on behalf of others
  • People supporting residents through transitions in care or supported living

My background in education shaped how I approach that — with patience, clarity and empathy. Taking the time to explain, to listen, and to ensure people feel supported throughout the process isn't an add-on. It's essential. It's central to how we work.

That's why so much of our work comes through recommendations. People remember not just what was moved, but how it was handled and how they were treated.

Why Lewis & Co Moving Group exists today

Lewis & Co Moving Group exists because moving doesn't need to feel uncertain or risky.

When a move is planned properly, communicated clearly and carried out with care, the experience changes completely. Doubt is replaced with confidence. Stress gives way to calm.

That's the standard we work to — whether we're supporting homeowners, businesses, housing associations, care providers, estate agents, solicitors, councils or auction houses.
